What is Panchakarma?

Panchakarma is an Ayurvedic Purification Process. Panchakarma is performed after consultation with Vaidya (Ayurvedic doctor) by trained panchakarma therapist with patient specific medicated oils, ghee (clarified butter), kashay, potali etc. 

Panchakarma therapies are customized for individuals based on their prakruti (body constitution) and health conditions, seasons, dosha aggravation etc. Panchakarma detoxifies the body to a very deeper level and the effects are long lasting. Panchakarma helps to treat the root cause of illness and a healthier person can lead a balanced and healthy life.As the name says ‘Panchakarma’ means 5 major purification therapies namely Vaman, Virechan, Basti, Nasya, Raktamokshan. There are many external therapies like Abhyanga, Swedan, Kati Basti, Janu Basti, Prushtha basti, different potali massages, different different dhara with oil, milk and decoctions etc.

Who should take this Course?

  • Prerequisites:

    • – Student must have passed 12th grade 
    • – It is not compulsory to have a science background.
    • – Those who want to learn ancient science & who want to work at Ayurveda Hospital; clinic:Health resort etc. can take up this course. 
    • – Ayurveda students who want to gain practical knowledge of panchakarm.
    • – Practicing vaidyas to excel in their practices.
    • – Any health conscious individual who wants to learn about ayurveda to  take care of his own as well as  his family heath.

  • Scope of Practice:  
    After completion, Panchakarma Technician can 

    • – Perform panchakarma therapies under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic Doctor.
    • – Support and help to deliver the panchakarma treatment program designed by Ayurvedic doctors.
    • – Panchakarma Therapist is not trained to design treatment schedules or to consult a patient & advise medicine for it. 
    • – The individual’s scope of practice will be more specifically designated by local/state guidelines. It is the individual’s responsibility to be compliant.

Please note: This certification is not a “license” to practice Panchakarma. This course provides the knowledge and skill training necessary to become a competent Panchakarma therapist. All the participants of this program must check with all local rules and regulations governing aspects of Panchakarma practice.

Panchakarm Therapist Course Overview

Panchakarma is a process of cleansing and rejuvenating the system based on the ancient system of Ayurveda. It works on all the tissues and cells of the body and heals the body at the deepest level. Panchakarm is done using natural ingredients in the form of decoctions, oil, ghee, choorna etc. It is customized for individuals on the basis of many different things like Prakruti (constitution), health conditions, season, dosha predominance etc. This course covers basic principles of Ayurveda, Principles of Panchakarma, and diet during the course of panchakarm as well as after completion of panchakarm, classical methods of panchakarm and bahyakarma procedures as outlined in the Ayurvedic texts. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a Panchakarma Therapist Certificate.

The Panchakarma Therapist Certification program covers both theoretical and practical training, including a blend of online learning, in person practical experience and clinical encounters. The course is 3 month intensive training module, supported by digital notes. Weekly 3 days theory and practical sessions will be conducted, for online students there is 15 days contact program at the end of the course followed by exam

Learning Outcomes

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive education in the classical Panchakarma therapies as explained in Ayurvedic texts.

On completion, participants will:

  • Gain the knowledge of classical Ayurvedic concepts like dosha, dhatu, mala,  panchamahabhut, prakruti, agni etc
  • Undarstand the purvakarm,pradhan karm, paschat karm of Panchakarm,all the bahyakarmas, kerala therapies etc.
  • Learn how to prepare specialized preparation for panchakarm therapies like decoctions, oils, lepa, patrapotali,shalishasti potali etc.
  • Learn how to prepare specialized food during Panchakarma.
  • Understand the purpose, function, indications, contraindications, and how to perform all the treatments including Abhyanga, Udvartana, Svedana, Pinda Sveda, Pizhichil, Dhara, Shirodhara, Takradhara, Ksheera Dhara, Kati Vasti, Valuka Sweda, Nasya, Netra Tarpana, Upanaha, Pichu, Choorna Sweda,
  • Guide clients on the post-Panchakarma food and lifestyle practices to maintain health.

Curriculum

The Panchakarma Therapist Certification is a blend of theory; practical and clinical experience to ensure proper theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. 

We begin with introductory principles of Ayurveda and Panchakarma, providing the necessary foundation for the students. We’ll then go forward with  practical and theoretical knowledge Bahya –abhyantar karmas the Ayurvedic theory of well-being that helps us assess an individual’s state of health, including the elements, individual constitution, physiology, and key metabolic functions. The role of detoxification and rejuvenation will be introduced during weekend one and continued during weekend two for an in-depth look at the ethics, reasons, methods, and treatments during Panchakarma from beginning to end.

The following four weekend intensive sessions include practical training and advanced Panchakarma theory. During the practical sessions demonstration of therapies with soft skills will be taught and case studies are incorporated to provide hands-on experience and practice for applied

No, these certificates are not issued from any of the government authorities or Ayush.

Each country has different rules regarding the practice of Ayurveda. For example, in some countries you have to pass an exam in order to practice. Please consult the country’s guidelines for which you are inquiring.

Yes, 95% of live attendance is compulsory.

You can message your questions; our teachers will solve it on doubt solving session. There is a ‘chat’ box for online courses; you can type in your questions for the instructor to reply. For some courses, the microphone is enabled for students to ask questions verbally. 

Sorry, no discount available for online course, as the mode of teaching does not change the syllabus or notes. The course fee does not include food & accommodation charges it would be charged when you attend contact program or if you choose residential program

Practical sessions of this course held in two sessions – morning 8:00 am to 11:00 am & at evening – 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

We offer hands-on training in-Practical Session. If it is bodywork, you will practice it on dummy patient or assist the senior therapist. After completion of course you can do internship for more experience.

The class starts in the morning and concludes by late afternoon. There are tea breaks and a lunch break. Each day, prior to class, there is a prayer to Lord Dhanwanthari.

No, filming video and clicking photo is not allowed during practical or during theory sessions.

Food at The Tapasya is vegetarian and prepared in the Indian style. Please note: all non-vegetarian foods and alcoholic drinks are prohibited within the hospital and campus limits.

Our staff will make sure you are hosted properly. The culture is very warm and inviting, and you will feel welcome in all places.

No library in the campus but you can use the internet for study.

Yes, there is Wi-Fi. You can use this Wi-Fi facility only for study.

Guests’ behaviour and dress code should be respectful of the local culture and enhance the spiritual atmosphere. Comparatively, the local culture at the Tapasya is more conservative with less skin being revealed when compared to most Western cultures. Plan to wear loose fitting clothing and both men and women should ensure to cover their shoulders, midriff, and legs. Clothing that is transparent and revealing is not permitted. Shorts above the knee, low cut and sleeveless tops, and tank tops are not permitted. Loose fitting pants, t-shirts, shirts, Kurties are ideal for your stay. 

Travel Questions:

 The earliest arrival time to avoid additional accommodation fees at The Tapasya is the day prior to your class.

It is recommended that you arrive at least one day before your training starts to allow you time to acclimate.

It is not recommended to bring family as it can be very distracting during your stay. However, we can accommodate family members (adults) at an additional cost if necessary. Please notify us well in advance so necessary arrangements can be made. Accommodations, transportation, treatments and meals will all be an additional cost.

Airfare to and from India is not included in the program fee. Attendees are required to book their own airfare

Yes, you will need to obtain a tourist visa for your stay during the internship; please state that you are attending a short educational course for Ayurveda and Yoga.

Vaccinations are a personal choice. We recommend speaking to your primary care physician and consulting with a travel clinic before deciding upon vaccines.
